TRUCKSMITH PRIORITISES WORK-LIFE BALANCE WITH NEW “RIGHT TO DISCONNECT” POLICY

At Trucksmith, we’ve always valued our employees. We know that their dedication and hard work are the driving force behind our success in providing high-quality commercial vehicle conversions. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new policy that reinforces our commitment to their well-being: the “Right to Disconnect.”

What is the “Right to Disconnect”?

Simply put, it’s our formal commitment to respecting our employees’ personal time. It means that outside of their contracted working hours, Trucksmith employees are not expected to respond to work-related communications. This includes emails, calls, messages on internal platforms – anything work-related.

Why is Trucksmith implementing this policy?

In today’s connected world, it’s easy for the lines between work and personal life to blur. We recognise that this “always-on” culture can lead to:

  • Burnout and stress: Constant connectivity can take a toll on mental and physical health.
  • Reduced productivity: Overworked and tired employees are less effective.
  • Lower morale: Feeling pressured to be available outside of work hours can lead to dissatisfaction.

We believe that our employees deserve to switch off, recharge, and enjoy their lives outside of work. A well-rested and balanced team is a happier and more productive team. This policy isn’t just about compliance; it’s about fostering a healthy and sustainable work environment where everyone can thrive.

The Benefits We’ve Already Seen

While this policy is relatively new, we’re already seeing positive results:

  • Improved Morale: Employees feel valued and respected, knowing that their personal time is prioritised.
  • Increased Focus During Work Hours: When employees know they can truly disconnect, they’re more present and engaged during their working day.
  • Reduced Stress Levels: The clarity and boundaries provided by the policy are contributing to a calmer and more relaxed work environment.
  • Stronger Teamwork: By respecting each other’s time, we’re building a more supportive and collaborative culture.

How the Policy Works at Trucksmith

Our “Right to Disconnect” policy includes the following key principles:

  • No Expectation to Respond: Employees are not required to monitor or respond to work communications outside of their contracted hours.
  • Manager Responsibility: Managers are trained to respect these boundaries and avoid sending non-urgent communications outside of work hours.
  • Emergency Exceptions: We understand that true emergencies happen. In those rare cases, we have clear protocols for out-of-hours contact, ensuring it’s used only when absolutely necessary and that employees are appropriately compensated.
  • Using Technology Wisely: We encourage the use of features like “send later” in email to avoid disrupting colleagues’ personal time.

Trucksmith’s Commitment

The “Right to Disconnect” policy is more than just a document; it’s a reflection of our values. We are committed to creating a workplace where our employees feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their best work and enjoy a fulfilling life outside of work. We believe this is the key to our continued success.
