TRUCKSMITH PRIORITISES WORK-LIFE BALANCE WITH NEW “RIGHT TO DISCONNECT” POLICY

At Trucksmith, we’ve always valued our employees. We know that their dedication and hard work are the driving force behind our success in providing high-quality commercial vehicle conversions. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new policy that reinforces our commitment to their well-being: the “Right to Disconnect.”

What is the “Right to Disconnect”?

Simply put, it’s our formal commitment to respecting our employees’ personal time. It means that outside of their contracted working hours, Trucksmith employees are not expected to respond to work-related communications. This includes emails, calls, messages on internal platforms – anything work-related.

Why is Trucksmith implementing this policy?

In today’s connected world, it’s easy for the lines between work and personal life to blur. We recognise that this “always-on” culture can lead to:

  • Burnout and stress: Constant connectivity can take a toll on mental and physical health.
  • Reduced productivity: Overworked and tired employees are less effective.
  • Lower morale: Feeling pressured to be available outside of work hours can lead to dissatisfaction.

We believe that our employees deserve to switch off, recharge, and enjoy their lives outside of work. A well-rested and balanced team is a happier and more productive team. This policy isn’t just about compliance; it’s about fostering a healthy and sustainable work environment where everyone can thrive.

The Benefits We’ve Already Seen

While this policy is relatively new, we’re already seeing positive results:

  • Improved Morale: Employees feel valued and respected, knowing that their personal time is prioritised.
  • Increased Focus During Work Hours: When employees know they can truly disconnect, they’re more present and engaged during their working day.
  • Reduced Stress Levels: The clarity and boundaries provided by the policy are contributing to a calmer and more relaxed work environment.
  • Stronger Teamwork: By respecting each other’s time, we’re building a more supportive and collaborative culture.

How the Policy Works at Trucksmith

Our “Right to Disconnect” policy includes the following key principles:

  • No Expectation to Respond: Employees are not required to monitor or respond to work communications outside of their contracted hours.
  • Manager Responsibility: Managers are trained to respect these boundaries and avoid sending non-urgent communications outside of work hours.
  • Emergency Exceptions: We understand that true emergencies happen. In those rare cases, we have clear protocols for out-of-hours contact, ensuring it’s used only when absolutely necessary and that employees are appropriately compensated.
  • Using Technology Wisely: We encourage the use of features like “send later” in email to avoid disrupting colleagues’ personal time.

Trucksmith’s Commitment

The “Right to Disconnect” policy is more than just a document; it’s a reflection of our values. We are committed to creating a workplace where our employees feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their best work and enjoy a fulfilling life outside of work. We believe this is the key to our continued success.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? THE STORY BEHIND THE ORIGINAL LOLOADER®

Trucksmith logo

Here at Trucksmith, we’re incredibly proud of the innovative solutions we bring to the world of commercial vehicles. For 40 years, we’ve been driven by a passion to make transportation more efficient, safer, and ultimately, easier for businesses across the UK. And it’s this very drive that led to the creation of one of our most iconic vehicles: the LoLoader®.

You see them on the roads every day – vans with that distinctive low chassis, making loading and unloading a breeze. But did you know that the name “LoLoader” isn’t just a generic description? It’s a name that we, Trucksmith, specifically coined and have proudly trademarked.

The story of the LoLoader® began with a simple yet powerful observation: traditional vans often presented a significant challenge when it came to accessing the load space. The higher floor made lifting heavy or bulky items strenuous and time-consuming, impacting productivity and potentially leading to injuries. We knew there had to be a better way.

Our team of engineers and designers put their heads together, determined to create a vehicle that truly addressed these issues. After rigorous research, development, and testing, the original Trucksmith LoLoader® was born. Its revolutionary low-floor design dramatically reduced the loading height, making it significantly easier and safer to move goods in and out.

The impact was immediate. Businesses across various sectors – from delivery services to removals companies – recognised the immense benefits of the LoLoader®. It wasn’t just a van; it was a productivity-boosting, back-saving solution. And as its popularity grew, so did the recognition of its unique name: LoLoader®.

That’s why we took the important step of trademarking the name “LoLoader®”. This ensures that when you see a vehicle bearing that name, you know you’re getting the genuine article – the original low-floor van engineered and built to the high standards of Trucksmith innovation and quality.

However, we’ve noticed a growing trend of other vehicle conversions being referred to as “low loaders.” While we understand the descriptive nature of the term, it’s important to clarify that “LoLoader®” is a registered trademark of Trucksmith. Using this specific name to describe other manufacturers’ vehicles is not only inaccurate but also constitutes passing off.

Passing off occurs when a trader misrepresents their goods or services as being those of another, or associated with another, and this is likely to deceive the public. When other companies call their vehicles “low loaders,” it can create confusion in the market and potentially mislead customers into believing they are getting a Trucksmith product when they are not.

We’ve invested significant time, effort, and resources in developing and perfecting the LoLoader®. Our trademark protects this investment and, more importantly, ensures that our customers know they are choosing a vehicle with the heritage, reliability, and innovation that the Trucksmith name represents.

So, the next time you see a truly groundbreaking low-floor van, remember its true name: the Trucksmith LoLoader®. It’s more than just a description; it’s a mark of quality, innovation, and the original solution to low-level loading. We’re proud of our LoLoader® and its legacy, and we’ll continue to innovate and provide the best possible vehicles for your business needs.

Think low loading? Think the original. Think Trucksmith LoLoader®.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS: UNDERSTANDING PAYLOAD CAPACITY FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES (AND WHY HONESTY MATTERS)

For anyone buying a commercial vehicle, payload capacity – the amount you can safely and legally carry – is crucial. Yet, calculating it can be complex, and some providers might not be fully transparent. At Trucksmith, we champion clear, accurate payload information, ensuring you know your vehicle’s true capabilities.

What is Payload?

Simply put, payload is a vehicle’s carrying capacity for cargo, passengers, and extra equipment. It’s the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) – the maximum loaded weight – minus the vehicle’s empty weight (curb weight).

Why Accurate Payload Matters:

Overloading is risky:

  • Safety: Harder to control, higher accident risk.
  • Legal: Fines and vehicle seizure possible.
  • Vehicle Damage: Strains suspension, tires, etc.
  • Cost: Worsens fuel efficiency.

What Affects Payload?

  • Vehicle size and model (larger often means lower payload).
  • Engine and transmission weight.
  • Added equipment (winches, bodies, etc.).
  • Driver and passenger weight.

Trucksmith: Payload Calculations You Can Rely On.

We ensure accuracy by:

  • Using official manufacturer data.
  • Factoring in all modifications and equipment.
  • Providing clear, detailed calculations.
  • Prioritising your safety – we’ll never exceed limits.

Don’t gamble with overloading or inaccurate figures. Trust Trucksmith for honest payload calculations that keep you safe, legal, and efficient.

Contact us at mail@trucksmith.co.uk or 01884 33001 for a clear understanding of your vehicle’s true payload.
